Slush Singapore 2018 is finally done and dusted! This year’s event was a smashing success, thanks to the support of over 2,500 attendees, investors, speakers, startups, media and volunteers. Here’s a recap of the key highlights –
Kicking off the event was our very own Anna Ratala, Head of Slush Singapore. “Slush is a platform for the next generation of entrepreneurs. We are not an event at all, we are not a conference, we are a catalyst,” she said in her welcome address. And with that, the event was officially in full swing. Our speakers, including notable investors, industry experts and startup leaders, took the stages to discuss their visions, inspirations and various challenges they’ve faced in taking the road less travelled.
Paul Bragiel on Winning the global game
Paul Bragiel, Founding Partner of Golden Gate Ventures, is an entrepreneur-turned-investor. To date, Paul has founded successful funds in Europe, Southeast Asia and Africa – all while touring the world. He credited his success to his past failures, and encouraged us to embrace failures as part of the learning process.
Chatri Sityodtong on Zero to billions
Meanwhile, Chatri Sityodtong, Founder of ONE Championship, shared his inspiring story on how the key values of martial arts helped him in surviving extreme hardship in his youth to become the CEO of the largest martial arts organisation in the world.
Dynamic startups on showcase: Motivated Young Hustlers
We were joined by some of the most dynamic startups in the region who brought their latest ideas and products to life at our Startup Booths and Demo Stands. Among them were Cope – a startup helping low income families reduce costs that was founded by a team of 12-year-olds, as well as Action – a middle-man bridging local charities and individuals who donate irregularly that is run by a team of 14-year-olds. Looks like today’s kidpreneurs are venturing far beyond the lemonade stand. We are so excited to see how young people are making waves in the business world.
Slush Singapore X Philips Startup Challenge Winner: Smartfuture
This year, we also teamed up with Philips to take pitching to a whole new level. Startups were challenged to come up with innovative solutions for global healthcare challenges. The Startup Challenge came to a close at the end of the day, with Smartfuture declared the winner. The winner, selected out of 100 applications, 20 semi-finalist and 6 finalist blew the judges away with their idea of helping corporates measure health and wellness metrics of their workforce through the provision of easy-to-use, portable and wireless-enabled health check-up kiosk at their premises.
Once again, a huge thank you to everyone who made Slush Singapore 2018 such a success! See you next year! Meanwhile, keep up with Slush Singapore by following our Facebook and Instagram @slushsingapore for updates
