Based in Helsinki, the hit-making capital of the mobile universe, Grand Cru is dedicated to creating touch-screen games that will allow everybody, gamer or not, to create beautiful and unique shared experiences. Founded in 2011 by six scrappy Finnish game-development veterans who believe that people ultimately want to play games together, Grand Cru is in a unique position to use their development team’s experience on titles such as Habbo Hotel and Tiki Towers and more to create deep social games with broad appeal such as Supernauts, delivering games that players will want to share a number of ways, for a number of reasons.
About NGP’s investment in Grand Cru
In July 2013, Finnish game developer Grand Cru announced the closing of €8.5 million in Series A funding. New investors Qualcomm Ventures and Nokia Growth Partners join the lead investor Idinvest Partners in supporting the development studio that’s poised to be the next mobile hit-maker from Helsinki.
“Grand Cru has what we look for in a gaming company; a great team, multi-platform scalability, data and optimization capabilities and global growth potential. We believe Grand Cru has what it takes to launch a big hit in gaming. We have already invested in the gaming sector, especially in China, and saw this as a good opportunity to expand our portfolio in media and entertainment overall, an area we follow closely”, said Walter Masalin of Nokia Growth Partners.
NGP has invested in a number of companies globally within the media and entertainment sector, a key focus investment area for the fund; the portfolio includes Babbel, KongZhong, SponsorPay, UCweb and more. For a deeper look into what NGP is looking for in game companies, read Walter’s blog post here.
Nokia has a long-standing track record of helping companies develop and prosper through investment, acquisition and cooperation.
