The Slush pitching competition is one of the most anticipated events at Slush. On Thursday the 14th of November the last 20 companies that have made it to the finals will take over the Black Stage.
Besides that the winner of the pitching competition will receive 10 000 € from Open Ocean Capital, the winner will get to spend a week in the second best startup hub in Europe (after Helsinki of course) – A Week in Berlin!
The week in Berlin will be organized by Futurice, an international service creation company that is taking part in Slush as a key partner. The week will be filled with interesting meetings such as visiting the German Parliament, Axel Springer, Die Tageszeitung and meeting possible investors and interesting companies.
The winner will also get to know the startup scene in Berlin. Have you heard about Beta Haus before? It is a co-working space for truly creative minds. You can work there, attend a workshop or start building your prototype. Or the C-Base? It is a non-profit association of about 515 members in the heart of Berlin. The purpose of the association is to increase knowledge about computer software, hardware and data networks.
Malte Prien is a business developer at the Futurice Berlin office. Malte, what will the winning startup get out of the visit in Berlin?
“The startup will meet other startups, potential partners, investors face to face and they will get in touch with the right places of action. One of the key elements for a startup are contacts.”
How will Futurice benefit from hosting a startup in Berlin for a week?
“To keep up the startup spirit, Futurice needs to stay in contact with entrepreneurs. We want to host promising startups and get to know their perspectives and point of views about changing the world. Futurice is happy to build a relationship with skilled and motivated people.”
What kind of pitching and what kind of companies are you looking forward to see at Slush?
“Personally I would like to get in touch with innovative people that against the common way of thinking combine the unseen and mixes it to smart ideas that make a difference. So to say, I would like to return home from Helsinki and think, why haven’t I thought about that before!”
