Recently, we wrote about our new program concepts aimed at supporting the early-stage startup founders participating Slush. We browsed through potential partners for this mission and stopped at the number one of them: Y Combinator, the most prestigious startup accelerator in the world.
We are thrilled to announce that two YC partners, Kat Manalac and Gustaf Alströmer are joining Slush this year. YC has funded 1430 companies since 2005 and the alumni companies have raised a total of over $13 billion in funding. Today, its portfolio includes success stories like Dropbox, Stripe and Airbnb.
Gustaf went through YC ten years ago. After selling his company, Heysan, Gustaf joined Voxer, a messaging and walkie-talkie app for team communication. In 2012, he joined Airbnb to help start their growth team. When Gustaf joined Airbnb, there were only two other people with him in the growth team. At the time of Gustaf’s departure, the team had grown to 150 people under his role as Product Manager for Growth. Along the way, he has been part of building tools to gather in-depth data and user metrics and a team of data scientists to support decision-making and creating a strong culture of experimentation.
Before joining YC, Kat was Chief of Staff to Alexis Ohanian, co-founder of reddit. Prior to that, Kat worked for WIRED Magazine where she managed their brand and strategy. At YC she spends a lot of her time on helping the teams on their first press launches. She also runs outreach at YC, which means she gets to meet with potential applicants from all around the world.
Kat and Gustaf will both contribute to the Slush program on Startup Station, which is the place for the most concrete advice from metrics to hiring and firing for early-stage founders. Kat will host a Q&A session on how to reach out to press and investors, and impress them as early-stage founder. Gustaf will be compiling a hands-on 15-minute session on best growth hacks from YC, based on the data gathered from YC-companies. They both will also host office hours at Speakeasy, the speed mentoring spot at Slush. You can either pre-book your 15-minute spot at Speakeasy or line up at the event. Sign-up will open in early November.

What’s the result? Visually compelling, comprehensive brand reviews from the both. We had a chance to chat […]
