Mark Dillon, COO of Jolla invited a big part of the 128 Jolla employees to the stage and had the audience shout out their slogan for the tablet: “People powered!”. In practice this means that Jolla is involving all their active users to contribute their ideas and feedback on their community forum together.jolla.com. And most importantly, they launched an $380 000 IndieGoGo campaign to propel the “world’s first crowdsourced tablet” forward. The campaign is collecting more people power for the next three weeks at https://www.indiegogo.com/projects/jolla-tablet-world-s-first-crowdsourced-tablet
In addition to the second tablet announcement of Slush 2014, Dillon also introduced Rovio Stella, “not just another Android launcher”, a collaboration project with Rovio that combines the Sailfish experience and the Angry Birds -brand to new UI for almost any modern Android phone. Stella was first announced last Sunday.
Some numeric highlights from Dillon’s presentation were 30+ millions euros in angel funding, a distribution network that extends to 34 countries and 306 000 man hours spent. These have helped Jolla to deliver software updates every month to their phone launched last year, providing many community-inspired new features and fixing 13 112 bugs, a bug rate which according to Dillon is “half the industry standard in that amount code”.
This article is joining the thousands of media hits that Dillon mentioned, with a combined potential to reach over 2 billion people during the past two years.
