Although Slush Tokyo’s big event only happens during the first quarter, smaller events are held throughout the year. One of the projects that has been going on for the past few years is the Recruiting Event. With Japan’s traditional recruitment scheme, Slush Tokyo aims to give students another option and view when it comes to securing jobs and internships through shifting the focus to the startup scene.
For Slush Tokyo 2019 the team has held two recruiting sessions. The events had a total of 65 attendees with over 130 applicants, 8 speakers with presenting startups who have recruited from the pool of participants. The startups who spoke this year were: Rei Frontier, LikePay, JustInCase, Neeboor, Novars, Zehitomo, and Scout. Students were also given the chance to pitch themselves during a Reverse Pitch session to give the startups a chance to get to know prospective new team members.
During the second Recruiting Event, Linda Liukas, programmer, author and illustrator of the coding book series Hello Ruby, founder of Rails Girls and Forbes lister under Europe’s Top 50 Women in Tech 2018, joined to speak and meet attendees. She came to share her founder story, what she learned in Slush and how she started her coding journey.
The Recruiting Event is an effort to connect students to startups, inspire attendees and to introduce the startup scene to those who are curious. But since it’s just January and we’ve closed Recruiting Events for this quarter, there is no better way to meet and get involved in the scene other than coming to #slushtokyo19 happening Feb 22-23, 2019 at Tokyo Big Sight. Hope to see you there!
