Music Tech Fest was founded by Michela Magas, the European Woman Innovator of the Year in 2017 and our opening speaker at Slush Music 2016. Music Tech Fest is “a global festival of music ideas and a giant creative laboratory that connects artists, technologists, academia, industry and policy”. The people attending Music Tech Fest’s events come together to experiment and create around technology and performing arts. During the previous years, Music Tech Fest has organized events in all of the big innovation hubs around the globe, and now they’re coming to the cold and far North, Helsinki Finland, on Nov 24–29.
#MTFLabs is a hackathon, that dives deep into the world of methodologies for business innovation. The goal is always to have concrete impact on the stakeholders at hand. “The Industry Commons is an open innovation methodology, toolkit and ecosystem that builds disruptive innovation on top of existing industry capabilities and creates entirely new markets while protecting the layers of IP created by participants in real time using smart contracts.”
Music Tech Fest is built on a community of 5,000+ professionals in many fields, who have the urge to create something new from scratch. The participants in this Industry Commons testbed come from various backgrounds, representing fields like neuroscience, artistic expression, and product design among others. During their five days of hackathon, they’re meant to build a prototype of a product breaking barriers and diminishing gaps between the industries.
The hackathon culminates in a 20 minute long performance at the Slush Music Day 1 Afterparty on Tuesday Nov 28. The MTF experience built on stage is an open invitation for all enthusiasts to come and see the outcome of the project, all the technologies created during the hackathon days. The final performance can also be seen at the Official Slush Opening Party on Wednesday Nov 29 at Apollo Live Club.
