These funding organizations have one goal in common: to develop and support the growth of new businesses in developing markets. The International Trade Center, joint agency of World Trade Organization and United Nations, focus on the internationalization of small and medium-sized enterprises. SAIS programme enhances innovation in Southern Africa, by providing training, networks and funded projects. BioFISA’s purpose is to apply biosciences research and development in poverty alleviation. Serbia Innovation Fund contributes to the overall development of innovations through various financial aid instruments.
The startups will have the chance to fly to Helsinki to expand their networks and meet like-minded impact-driven entrepreneurs at Slush. The most prominent startups will also be pitching at the main Slush GIA Impact Showcase at the Pink Stage.
Eyone was founded in 2015 and is a software publisher in health and digital transformation, present in Senegal, Mali, Niger and Ivory Coast. Their idea is to improve the reaction time of doctors with patients, and as a consequence, reduce the death rate in various serious medical matters, such as maternal health, children’s health and chronic diseases.
Swipe2pay was founded in Uganda, Kampala in 2016. Swipe2pay empowers small businesses to access their finance and business performance data in a simpler way. Currently, many small businesses function below their full potential constrained by limited access to meaningful finance. Swipe2pay’s goal is to let these small businesses have complete access to credit as they grow.
Education is expensive in emerging markets: even the ones who have higher education find it difficult to get the right job. SomaApp helps young people to find internships, scholarships, and conferences to fit their education and interests. The app is currently expanding to Uganda, Kenya, Nigeria, Zambia and South Africa.
AgriPredict’s mission is to enhance security and diminish farmer yield harm caused by pests and unfriendly climate conditions. AgriPredict works intimately with ranchers, rural specialists, NGOs and different partners to distinguish the requirements of the agrarian division.
Foi Sciences was founded in 2015. Foi Science convert agricultural waste in activated charcoal to make cosmetics such as perfumes. The startup teaches currently unemployed women to make these products in order to sell them or for personal use.
Safe Motherhood Alliance was founded in Zambia in 2017. A big part of the child mortality problem in Zambia and beyond is the lack of access to sterile supplies. Safe Motherhood Alliance improves safe births by developing a simple, low-cost disposable delivery kit for pregnant women in Zambia to use during childbirth.
Woobox offers a 100% recyclable packaging alternative to be used to transport all sorts of foods to restaurants, farmers markets and large retailers, becoming an alternative to large Styrofoam boxes. In other words, the team strives to become a key figure in the global ecosystem and contribute to a more sustainable future through a natural food delivery system alternative.
