Media Bank

Media Bank is a resource bank shared with journalists attending Slush. Content is submitted by startups, investors, partners, and speakers. The news bank consisted of press releases, media kits, and materials supporting stories in 2022. This year, the Media Bank will be re-vamped and include new features to make the media job easier.

Topic: The happiest nation in the world has also created a company that is on a mission to create a happy and healthy elderhood. Founded in 2018, Gubbe connects the elderly with young adults who visit and help with tasks such as housework. In the process, Gubbe made elderly care trendy among young people and has since expanded from Finland to Sweden and to the U.K.

Supercell and RELEX Solutions

Topic: Raising some of the biggest funding rounds in the Nordics while also fostering creativity and an exceptional company culture. Supercell (makers of mobile games e.g. Clash of Clans and Brawl Stars and valued at $10.2B) and RELEX Solutions (supply chain and retail planning platform who raised €500M this year) have established their positions as key players in the Finnish business environment, and both have come up with ways to attract and retain international talent.

Swappie

Topic: Swappie, the fastest growing startup in Europe according to Financial Times, is on a mission to make refurbished phones mainstream, and, at the same time, empower everyone to help achieve long term sustainability for the environment. By buying used iPhones and selling refurbished devices, Swappie is leading the development of the circular economy in the tech industry.

Track 2: How to design better societies through deep tech

Topic: A deeper look into Metaverse, its possibilities in different industries and how companies could benefit from it. Introduction will be done by Zoan, who creates virtual worlds, events and content. One of the worlds they’ve created is Cornerstone, a hyper-realistic, boundless world that resides deep in the metaverse.

IQM and Maki.vc

Topic: Finland is one of the fastest growing quantum ecosystems in the world and also hosts an on-premises quantum computer for commercial use. IQM, a leader in quantum computing, will showcase their quantum hardware facilities, latest quantum processor and its possibilities. Joined by Ilkka Kivimäki from Maki.vc, who invested in IQM, the visit will also cover the societal role of quantum technology and the quantum race in Europe, China and US.

Onego Bio

Topic: Future of foodtech – what are we eating in 10 years? Onego Bio – led by Maija Itkonen, the creator of Pulled Oats – is producing egg whites without chickens through cellular agriculture. Will these kinds of solutions be common in a decade, and can people change their eating habits?

Marimekko and Spinnova

Topic: Next-gen materials have become the new black in fashion, and a number of solutions are coming from Finland. Finnish design house Marimekko and sustainable material company Spinnova have worked together to test, develop, and commercialize new, wood-based materials since 2017. Their first commercial collaboration capsule collection launched in August 2022. A visit to Marimekko’s textile printing factory will offer a glimpse into the collaboration and, more importantly, explain why partnerships are needed in the mission to bring new materials closer to the consumer.

What is the latest data from Finnish startup funding and changes seen after the pandemic? FVCA, the voice of VC and PE community and the largest VC association in the Nordics shares the current market intelligence.

Helsinki Innovation Services

Finland is a university country that has fostered multiple research-based startups. Helsinki Innovation Services Ltd., owned by the University of Helsinki, combines scientific expertise with knowledge of business development, and thus, can provide an overview of the commercialization path from research to business.
