The most humid Slush season gathered 3,000 people together from more than 60 countries. We gathered the highlights from the two days of pre-events, program on three stages and the Pitch Competition. Now it’s time to see what actually went down during the main event:
Slush Singapore debuted in 2016 with Slush’s first event taking place in Southeast Asia. This year’s Slush Singapore was all about discovering technology and entrepreneurship beyond the surface – to see the true colors behind the obvious. The one day event was all about celebrating technology and entrepreneurship through a series of talks, panels and fireside chats.
Taavet Hinrikus, co-founder of Transferwise, serial entrepreneur Taizo Son and Pia Henrietta Kekäläinen, founder of Mehackit and CEO of Carbo Culture to name a few, took on the stage together with 90 other speakers. Not only could the speakers be seen on the stages, the attendees of Slush Singapore had the chance to join the Q&A Boomerang corner for Questions and Answers sessions together with the speakers.
Entrepreneurs of Slush Singapore sharing their stories on stage
Dr Julian Hosp, the founding CEO for TenX, is a former professional athlete and surgeon. Today, he runs TenX, a company that’s making cryptocurrencies spendable in everyday life. Hosp shared what he learned from raising 80M USD in 7 minutes in a token offering. In an earlier interview by Forbes he summarized: “The biggest lesson for me was to see the massive impact all our transparent and authentic communication had. In an environment that is supposed to be ‘trustless,’ it showed me once again that people want to trust someone or something.”
Dirk van Quaquebeke, Managing Partner at BEENEXT & Founder Alps Ventures covered the topic on how to make financial predictions in the startup world and Pocket Sun, Founding Partner of SoGal Ventures, shared her story on building a world wide network of 4,000 female entrepreneurs and investors.
Nine companies awarded in the Slush Singapore Pitch Competition
Slush Singapore culminated in the Pitch Competition finals between the top 10 startups chosen by a jury of investors. The companies selected to the finals represented a wide range of technologies and industries from solving how to grow crops without chemicals to better pre and post surgery care for patients.
The theme of the competition was World Domination Tour, and what would be a more fitting way to award the winners than sending the companies to startup events all around the world? So, next up for the awarded startups is to head out to Helsinki, Shanghai, London, San Francisco and Tokyo to grow their companies. Other awards included free transactions from Stripe and design support from TBWA to name a few.
As the Slush tradition remains, the volunteers of Slush Singapore took the stage together with the organizers of all the other Slush global events – Tokyo, Shanghai and Helsinki.
Slush will celebrate entrepreneurship next in Shanghai, October 12-13. And while you’re preparing yourself to our next global event, we strongly encourage you to go and take a look at all the amazing pics taken at Slush Singapore!
