In its second year, Slush Music has expanded into two whole days of music entrepreneurship. Now, we are proud to introduce two giants from the world of digital distribution speaking at the Cable Factory (Kaapelitehdas) in November: Denis Ladegaillerie and Scott Cohen!
Denis Ladegaillerie is a veteran of the US and European New Media industries as the founder and CEO of Believe Group, a leading digital distribution service provider. He began his career as the Internet and New Media Activities Manager at Vivendi Universal. From his work bench, the first digital music service, eMusic, was developed along with the first music based networking site MP3.com.
Scott Cohen is the founder of the industry leading independent distribution and music label services corporation The Orchard in 1997, back when digital distribution definitely was not trending on early iterations of Google. Working with the music legend Richard Gottehrer, Scott has been instrumental in the rise of digital distribution and its future. Since its inception, The Orchard has grown into the largest digital distributor in the world. Before making it in the tech world, Scott made a name for himself managing artists and continues to do so even today.
Not having the two of these superstars just wasn’t an option for Slush Music. Yet what is it that connects The Orchard and Believe?
On top of being pioneers in their field, both companies have been heavily invested into. The Orchard was acquired by Sony in 2015, opening the new parent company’s massive operations to The Orchard. By developing new ways of funding music startups, they have enabled others to expand the industry as they themselves have. Also Believe has received millions in funding, and has an annual turnover exceeding US $250m. With dedication and utilizing amazing technology, Believe has brought further capital into the industry.
Digital distribution is the modern face of the music industry. Whether you stream or purchase your music in other ways, the people who maintain the networks, develop marketing strategies and create new products are the ones who make it possible for you. It goes without saying, that the superstars behind these operations will have a lot to tell about the future. We’re excited to hear what Denis and Scott have to say. Aren’t you?
