The Slush 2017 line-up just keeps getting more and more intriguing: today, we are very proud to introduce Dr Elina Berglund, one of the Nobel-winning physicists who discovered the Higgs Boson, and the co-founder of the ground-breaking contraceptive app, Natural Cycles.
Before Natural Cycles, particle physicist Elina Berglund was best known for her work at the CERN laboratory in Switzerland, where her team discovered the Higgs Boson, a particle that had first been theorized already in the 1960s. This discovery led to her and her team members winning the 2013 Nobel Prize in physics.
All of this took place before Berglund had turned thirty.
After discovering the Higgs, Berglund did not slow down even though she did decide to leave her physics job. Instead, it was time to concentrate on women’s reproductive health.
Together with her husband Dr Raoul Scherwizl they founded Natural Cycles, a natural contraceptive app that lets the users know their fertile days by analysing their body temperature. The app gives its users the possibility to replace medical contraception with technology – and it is the first and so far the only app that has been certified to do so.
