If you listened to Al Gore when he gave his Opening Keynote Speech at Slush 2017, this shouldn’t be news to you, as he let the secret out while congratulating Andreas Saari on his new position… Don’t remember? That’s fine. As long as you’ll listen more carefully when he talks about climate change, we’re all good.
Co-founder and CEO of Wave Ventures, the first student-run venture capital fund in the Nordic region, Andreas Saari has been appointed as the new CEO of Slush. The new President of Slush is Alexander Pihlainen. Former CEO Marianne Vikkula continues as a board member for Startup Foundation, which is one of the driving forces behind Slush.
Everyone stay calm – these two know exactly what they’re doing. Both Saari and Pihlainen have years of experience organizing Slush – Andreas started as a volunteer in 2014, and Alexander has been on board since 2015. Before taking on his current position, Andreas was in charge of program development at Slush. Alexander is the former CMO and has worked to promote and globalize Slush, both on ground and on air: he’s been one of the main organisers of the so-called Nerd Bird, which is a charter flight bringing investors and startups from San Francisco to attend Slush in Helsinki.
– The Finnish startup scene is in an exciting stage of development. We currently have a bunch of startups on our hands which show great promise. It’s only a matter of time when one of these will rise to become the next Supercell. Slush will do everything in its capacity to speed up this development, Saari comments.
We’re always happy to play the role of matchmaker – many startups have met their first investors at Slush and many use the event for further, efficient fundraising efforts. Enabling and facilitating these important encounters will stay in the core of Slush also in the future.
– We want to increase meetings at Slush tenfold this year, says Saari.
